Breakfast and a Movie Fundraiser for Cinema Arts and SOA Watch This Saturday!

By admin on November 5, 2010

Have a hunger for breakfast *and* a hunger for justice? Fill up on this:

SOA Watch Long Island invites you to breakfast and a movie!

“We Are Not Afraid: Honduras Under the Military Coup,” a documentary by director Katia Lara, shows us the reality of the summer 2009 coup d’etat in Honduras, and the ensuing repression. The film is testimony of the violation of human rights that took place in the wake of the coup, and a testament to the courage of the people who continue to oppose it.

The guest speaker will be Lucy Pagoada-Quesada, a New York City high school Spanish teacher who was born and raised in Honduras. She is a coordinator of the group Honduras USA Resistencia, whose goal is to reveal the truth of what went on and is still going on in Honduras, and a member of the Honduran Solidarity National Network, which works with Hondurans around the U.S. She is also a member of the May 1st Coalition for workers and immigrants rights.

This gathering is a benefit for Honduras as well as for the wonderful Cinema Arts Centre and for college students who are planning to attend the November Vigil to close the SOA.
